Short version: Clam Sync works on your computer. Your footage, audio and file names never leave it. The app sends only what's needed to check your licence and tell you about updates.

Who we are

Adam Jaro, trading as soundlikejaro ("we"), 146 Clifton Road, London SE25 6QA, United Kingdom, is responsible for your personal data under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR). Questions or requests: support@clamsync.com.

The app

  • Your media: Clam Sync reads your footage on your computer and never uploads it, its sound, its file names or your timelines anywhere.
  • Licence activation: when you activate a paid licence, the app sends your licence key and your computer's name to Lemon Squeezy, which checks the key and keeps a list of the computers it's active on (so you can see and free them up). The app checks again from time to time while online. It also asks our own server on clamsync.com how long your updates last (renewals) and, for a Project Pass, for your upgrade code; it sends a scrambled fingerprint of your key (a SHA-256 hash), not the key itself, and our server stores only the plan, purchase date, update end date and code against it. Nothing else is sent.
  • Update check: the app occasionally asks our website whether a newer version exists, sending the app's version and your operating system's version. You can turn this off in the app's settings.
  • Diagnostic reports: only made when you choose Help → Save Diagnostic Report, saved on your computer, and only reach us if you send them. They hold file and folder names, settings and how each clip was matched, never media.

Buying

Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as merchant of record: it takes payment, handles tax and issues your licence key, under its own privacy policy. We never see your card details. We receive your name, email address, country and order details, to provide your licence, support you, and keep accounts as the law requires.

Emails

If you email us, we keep the conversation to help you. If you join our email list, we use your address only to send news about Clam Sync; every email has an unsubscribe link. The list is kept by Kit (kit.com), our email service, and a backup copy (your address, when and on which page you joined) on our Cloudflare server.

This website

This site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes requests (including your IP address) to serve pages and protect the site. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. The pricing pages guess your country from your browser's time zone to show local prices; that happens in your browser, and if you pick another country it's remembered there, not sent to us.

Why we use your data (legal basis)

  • Activating and checking licences, and order details: to perform our contract with you.
  • Accounting records: a legal obligation.
  • Update checks, support and keeping the site secure: our legitimate interests in providing working software.
  • The email list: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Who else handles it

Lemon Squeezy (payments and licences), Cloudflare (website and email) and Kit (the email list), each under their own privacy terms. Some of them process data outside the UK, under the safeguards the law requires. We don't sell your data, and don't share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Order and licence records: for as long as your licence is in use, and at least six years for accounts. Support emails: up to two years after we last hear from you. Email list: until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, delete or move your personal data, or object to how we use it. Email support@clamsync.com. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
